Near the upper reaches of the Chippewa Valley we find the community of Phillips. The area of Central Price County is drained by the Elk river, which flows into the South Fork of the Flambeau river a few miles west of Phillips. The Flambeau River made up of the North Fork and South Fork join the Chippewa River made up of the East Fork and The West Fork. It is an area of a few lakes and rivers, making vacationing and summer residences common.. The city was originally settled as a logging town with mills, and logging camps in the surrounding forests.
